Article: Design and construction of complex steam reducing and forming stations for large power plants up to 300 bar and 650 °C
The project focusses on a comparison of different variants of hot steam cooling.
Technically, the steam is cooled by cooling water which is dispersed in tiny droplets during the injection using different processes.

Application example: Strong cooperation helps to cool down a heated matter*
Existing power plants world wide already face a challenge with increasing use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. They must cope with performance fluctuations caused by the unpredictability of the weather. This situation results in high load in existing boiler systems and in many cases results in thermal shock crack formations, high wear and cracks of the steam lines in the reheater and in the high pressure part of the boiler.
The problem can be effectively solved by using a modern injection cooler system. However, close collaboration and coordination with multiple specialist suppliers and intensive involvement with their solutions are necessary here to guarantee smooth progress of the project. ...

Use of the newest steam cooling technology from Ibbenbüren
The increasing proportion of renewable energies for the Germany power supply results in necessary flexibilisation of combined cycle power plants. These must react quickly to the constantly changing grid utilisation with frequent starting and stopping processes and fast load changes. In addition, the efficiency for newer and reconditioned power plants is improved due to the use of temperatures above 550 °C. The high pressure and reheater steam must also be quickly and efficiently regulated under these conditions.
